March is Gone?

Hi everyone, Well I can't believe that March has already flown by. I can not for the life of me figure out where the time goes. I love being home and cooking, crafting, learning to play the piano again (very slowly!) and being a housewife! I am doing bookwork for the pool company Kenny works for, but I can work from home and fit it in, in my time! Also the company is new and small, so does not need a lot of time to keep up the books. I am trying to finish a quilt for Dad D. that I started after his 70th birthday party... Yeah, he just turned 80!! Well I started it and then it got packed away when we moved and there you have it...I found it when we moved and now am trying to figure out what the pattern was I was working on..I can't remember what I did yesterday, so this is a little difficult. Somehow I found all the pieces but not the "map"/plan that lays it out..Yikes!! Business has picked up a little bit since the weather is getting warm, so we are banking any extra money for later in the year, since we expect it to be slow again next winter. Yesterday I went to the nursery and picked out a few plants and a couple of trees to put in the yard..some of the plants were killed off in the snow and ice last winter. We are also putting in a small pond so the dogs will have water to play in and hopefully will leave the sprinkler lines alone. Bri especially seems to think there is nothing more fun they to pull the emitters off the sprinkler lines and watch the water "spurt"!! Woo Hoo!!! Great Fun! Kenny is recovering well and walking more each day. He will start outpatient therapy this week. They took out his stitches last Wednesday. I got a call from Mom and Dad D. today and after 2 years of Daddy being diagnosed with Gout, the doctor's FINALLY found out that it is NOT Gout, but Rheumatoid (sp?) Arthritis! Typical medical practice these days..no one ever thought to test him for this. It took extreme debillitating pain (anyone who knows dad knows they had to take him kicking and screaming) and a trip to the emergency room for them to get it right. They started him on steroids and he finally has relief after 2 years. They will be starting him on RA drugs in the next week and monitoring his response but for now the steroids have given him amazing relief. Mom D. is waiting to have an appointment with a 3rd eye doctor. She has cataracts in both eyes and was supposed to have surgery, but the first doctor did not belive that she was allergic to local anesthetics ( anything in the Caine family) and said, "well let's just do it and if there is a problem, we will figure out what to do then!" ( HUH?) The second one said that he would not touch the one eye at all, and he was reluctant to do the other one and could not guarantee that he could do any good, and it may be worse. He told her that she has macular degeneration and retinopathy in both eyes from the diabetes and there really is nothing they can do. OK...well one wants to do it all, no problem unless the local does not work and the other rudely ( according to Dad, not mom) tells them that there is nothing he can do for her!! I told her they needed to get ANOTHER opinion and then we could compare notes. They are waiting for their regular doctor to get another eye doctor lined up. If we can at least get one to agree with one or the other that will help!!! She was really devastated at first, but is adjusting now and waiting to hear where she goes from there! Dad turned 80 in February and Mom will be 80 in October so all in all they really do well. Mom and Dad D. are coming up here the weekend after Easter to visit. Dad is going to play trumpet with my church choir Sunday morning for the 9:30 and 11:00 services. I really enjoy doing these things with him. So glad we are getting these opportunities now. Well, that is about all I have for now!! Hope you all had a nice March and are looking forward to Blessed Easter!

  1. Thanks for the update. My Dad just had cataract surgery in March/Feb. It freaked me out to see him with no glasses! Hope you know how much I love you and think of you. Come stay with me for awhile. Just pretend I'm pregnant :) Love you all the way up to Heaven!
